What I liked

I loved sharing my passion for the University of Pittsburgh with incoming students and perspective students. It was a wonderful time to relax and explore the city of Pittsburgh, while also taking additional classes on the side.

What I wish was different

Not a thing! Everything was great.

Take advantage of all of the opportunities available and be ready to change and shape lives in ways that you will never know.

I love the personal interaction with incoming students. Working to facilitate PittStarts and impacting other's Pitt experience is incredibly rewarding.

What I wish was different

Advice

Being a panelist and peer advisor is really dependent on putting yourself out there and being relatable. Parents and students appreciate a real and compelling student to relate to and its impossible without stepping outside of a comfort zone and being a person first and an office worker second.

What I liked

I liked being able to discuss my research with people from all disciplines and also learn about what they were working on this summer. Everyone's project was so different from each other's and each was very interesting.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been more workshops on how to present my research. We had a few but I still didn't feel fully prepared for my final presentation.

The more you put into your summer of research, the more you'll get out of it!

I got a lot of hands on experience in a research lab with exposure to lots of cool, interesting techniques. I also had the opportunity to present my research twice as well as listen to talks given by other professionals in the field.

I enjoyed the fast paced rigor of the program. Also, the classroom sessions about MSTP programs and applying to Medical school were very informative.

More independence and say in my project

Be sure to make relationships with your Primary Investigator (PI). This will be necessary for future recommendations and possibly future collaborations.

What I liked

I really liked getting involved on campus when not a lot of students are on campus. I also loved meeting and working with the higher ups in the university. My absolute favorite part was welcoming all the new students and making Pitt's campus feel like home.

What I wish was different

It was a wonderful experience, I just wish they would've provided housing.
