Insurance Brokerage Intern

June - August 2016 • Addison, TX

What I liked

The pay was good and in line with expectations as an incoming senior $20/hr. The experience is really good if you want to make an entrance into the insurance world.

What I wish was different

Connecting with people in my department was a little difficult. Overall it could be a good internship, but it’s going to depend on the individuals you encounter.

Advice

Pretend it’s your future job and really press into it. That’s the only way you’ll get meaningful experience in such a short time.

Actuarial Analyst Intern

June - August 2017 • Houston, TX

What I liked

The people are really nice and it's pretty conveniently located

What I wish was different

There were pretty long periods of time where I'd sit around bored because no one would give me work

Advice

Grow a backbone and start literally just walking up to people and asking for work early on. If you don't, not only will you be bored, but if the other interns end up doing it before you, they'll just set that as the norm and go to other interns before they come to you with work

Actuarial Analyst (Intern)

May - August 2017 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I was able to work with everyone in the Health and Benefits Pittsburgh office. I gained experience with health, dental, vision insurances as well as other benefits programs employers offer their employees. I was able to price plans, plan for future liabilities, as well as benchmark costs for benefits and devise a plan to help save the company money.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to have gained more experience in life insurance.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Explore ideas and be ready to learn. When you're confronted with a project you're not quite sure about, try working through it, and then ask all of your questions at once. It's okay to be wrong; you'll learn with each step you take. Take time to work with the analysts and consultants. They want to see you succeed. And don't be afraid to ask them to lunch. Get to know them! The employees at Willis Towers Watson are great!

Compensation Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • White Plains, NY

What I liked

Good pay, flexible hours, employees are very friendly. Work is not difficult but does require close analysis

What I wish was different

If they had given more insight into how the data analysis we did would be applied by clients

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback! Clients can be mean but don’t take it to heart. This a great place to learn in’s-and-out’s of compensation data and how it is used
