Student Assistant

POSITION SPECIFIC SUMMARY:  

Tippie College of Business Dean’s Office is looking to hire a professional student to work in the Dean’s office. A Student Assistant’s primary function is to assist the Dean’s office faculty and staff by fielding telephone calls, receiving and directing visitors, and completing a variety of daily administrative tasks. Through completion of these administrative tasks, it allows the staff and faculty to be able to focus more on their university duties. This opportunity will not only allow individuals to support the Dean’s office, but also expand computer proficiency, hone technical skills, and enhance multi-tasking skills by working with a strong administrative team. A Student Assistant should demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality as well as a pleasant public demeanor.   

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC JOB TASKS 

  • Answer multi-line phone and transfer calls to the appropriate office(s)
  • Greet and provide assistance to visitors
  • Prepare speaker gift items
  • Gift inventory and organization
  • Assist with mailings
  • Data Entry/Document formatting
  • Formatting spreadsheets for Salesforce upload
  • Alum lookups in BGI: Degree information, address, BGI #’s
  • Room Reservations
  • Assist with checks received
  • Assist with Event preparation
  • RSVP intake
  • Nametag creations
  • Set-up/tear down
  • Responsible for Key management
  • Distribution of mail/newspapers
  • Other administrative clerical and computerized tasks as needed

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

  • University of Iowa Student
  • Dependable, Independent worker, customer service experience and high level of attention to detail are also required.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office: Email and calendaring (Outlook), word processing (Word), and spreadsheets and tables (Excel).

Work Schedule 

  • The Dean’s office is open Monday-Friday, 8-5. Flexibility with scheduling.
  • Up to 20 hours a week
