
Student Pharmacist
UI Health Care is seeking a student pharmacist currently enrolled at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy to provide both administrative and clinical support for Ambulatory Care Pharmacy services.
Position Description
Under the supervision of the Ambulatory Care Director and pharmacy managers, the student pharmacist will be assigned various projects and tasks to support Ambulatory Care Clinical Services as well as Retail and Specialty Pharmacy Operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining and filing controlled substance records, performing quality assurance calls to patients regarding DME (durable medical equipment) services, and under the supervision of a pharmacist, providing counseling to patients. Students should be proficient in excel and comfortable communicating with patients over the phone.
The student pharmacist will report to the Director of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Services. This position will require working at both the main hospital location and the ACTS/ACTO sites. Parking is available at the ACTS/ACTO locations.
Required Commitment:
- Schedule of 12-16 hours per week on average during the semester (not to exceed 20 hours/week)
- Students can work additional hours, up to 40 hours/week, over school breaks.
- Hours are flexible, but some consistency is desired to ensure duties are completed in a timely manner (ideally 3-4 days/week for at least 2 hours at a time).
Preferences:
- Increased availability during breaks (spring, winter, & summer) up to 40 hours/week
- Consistent summer availability outside of school related commitments (exceptions for rotations, etc.)
- Increased availability allows for training to additional, possibly advanced, job duties & functions
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Calling patients in regard to DME services.
- Calling patients to provide counseling.
- Utilizing Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets and document data collected.
- Documenting and providing services consistent with established policies, procedures and accreditation regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Maintaining appropriate records related to prescriptions and controlled substances.
- Assisting pharmacist by providing patient counseling, medication reconciliation, and clinical follow-up.
- Participating in regular team meetings and providing regular feedback on processes and procedures.
- Maintaining area orderliness and cleanliness.
- Coordinating technical activities with other members of the team.
- Completing and maintaining compliance with all competencies and educational requirements.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled student at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy (P2-P3)
- Must be registered as a Pharmacist-Intern
