Intern, Underwriting

Summary

Join F&G as a Summer 2026 intern and gain relevant experience, professional development and incredible networking at a growing company. This position’s primary responsibility is to support the Life Underwriting Operations department in assuring and enhancing underwriting practices to meet product pricing mortality.

Organization

This position reports to the Manager, Underwriting Implementation.

Duties & Responsibilities

The range of tasks to be performed may include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Analyze underwriting results, demonstrating knowledge of risk assessment concepts and processes
  • Prepare and monitor underwriting metric reports and participate in discussions related to management of mortality results
  • Support risk management through administration of the Post Issue Monitoring underwriting audit program
  • Gain experience assessing the efficacy of risk management tools and impact to underwriting philosophy
  • Assist in developing answers to business questions through analysis of underwriting data
  • Monitor Underwriting metrics, identifying process improvement ideas for increased efficiency
  • Complete ad hoc projects as assigned on a timely basis

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Pursuing an MBA or bachelor's degree in risk management or business degree specializing in insurance
  • Successful completion of coursework in basic life insurance risk concepts
  • Awareness and understanding of risk management and underwriting philosophies
  • Experience in advanced analytical decision making and critical thinking
  • Strong technical, organizational, computer, and team skills

Skills and Abilities

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products: WORD, Excel, Power Point
  • Experience with advanced data reporting tools, Tableau and Pivot tables, is preferred
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and displays a high energy level
  • degree of ownership to detail and high Strong collaborator who has the ability to function as a key member of a small group
  • Attention for meeting deadlines in individual areas of responsibility
  • Strong problem-solving skills that include advanced critical thinking and reasoning abilities
