Job Summary
A day in the life of a Portfolio Management Intern might include:
• Assist with Data Projects: Support the team in collecting, organizing, and analyzing business data related to pricing, underwriting, distribution, and claims.
• Contribute to Insights & Recommendations: Help identify patterns and trends, and participate in discussions about how data informs product decisions.
• Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work alongside product & portfolio managers, analysts, and marketers to understand how different roles contribute to business outcomes.
• Create Visuals & Presentations: Help build simple dashboards or slide decks to communicate findings clearly and professionally.
• Explore AI Concepts: Learn how AI is used in insurance (e.g., predictive modeling, automation) and assist with basic research or analysis involving AI tools.
• Participate in Learning Opportunities: Attend team meetings, training sessions, and intern events to build industry knowledge and professional confidence.
About You
A successful Portfolio Management Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
- Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, Risk Management & Insurance, Statistics or Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Marketing (with Analytics or Strategy focus), Computer Science, or a related field.
- Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred
- Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience
Skills/Competencies
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Ability to work well in teams and contribute to group efforts
• Time management and organizational skills
• Curiosity and willingness to learn
• Professional demeanor and accountability
• Basic proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
• Familiarity with data tools (e.g., Tableau, SQL, Python, R) is a plus
• Interest in AI and its business applications • Ability to think critically and ask thoughtful questions
Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, it is not usually available for entry level roles.
