Transmission Economic Analytics Intern Job Description:
We are a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative, providing electricity to 26 member-owner distribution cooperatives through Minnesota. Together, our systems power more than two-thirds of our great state.
General summary:
Great River Energy is seeking an Economic Analytics Intern at our headquarters in Maple Grove, MN to assist with creating automated reports, analyzing key financial metrics and budget development along with researching regulatory and industry trends.
Job responsibilities:
• Create automated reports in Power BI and Excel to track key transmission rate information and financial metrics over time.
• Develop repository of internal and external data regularly used in reporting and analysis.
• Support the development of 2026 transmission division budget
• Conduct research on industry policies and trends and communicate key insights to broader transmission business strategy and development team.
• Perform ad hoc financial and economic analysis/forecasts as requested and assist with presentation development of insights as needed.
• Participate in meetings, take notes, and contribute ideas openly.
• Engage with various departments to gain a broader understanding of the organization and energy industry.
Education and Experience:
Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, data analytics/science, energy policy program or related program at an accredited institution. Economic, financial, or statistical modeling experience and/or related coursework required.
• Interest in energy industry and electric cooperatives
• High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Proficiency with R or Python preferred to leverage modeling automation
• Proficiency with Power BI or Tableau preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Internship Duration:
The duration of the internship will consist of full-time hours (40 hours/week) during the summer and academic breaks, and part-time hours (10+/week) during the academic year. Continuation in the internship program will be based on performance and business needs. Eligibility to work in a hybrid environment may be granted upon successful integration into the role and at the discretion of management.
