Investment Analyst – Private Debt & Equity - Northwestern Mutual Capital

The Investment Analyst position supports the investment process of Northwestern Mutual Capital’s two primary portfolios: a $20B+ Private Equity and Debt portfolio and a $45B+ Private Placement Investment Grade Debt portfolio.  

  • The Private Equity and Debt portfolio consists of direct equity co-investments, senior debt investments, junior capital solutions (ie Mezzanine, Second Lien, HoldCo PIK, etc.), and General Partner investments with leading private equity firms.
  • The Private Placement Investment Grade debt portfolio consists of senior debt, structured solutions, and project finance alongside leading global corporations.

The Investment Analyst position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience investing across the capital structure as an industry agnostic analyst.  Primary responsibilities include financial modeling and valuation, conducting industry and business due diligence, assisting in the writing of investment recommendation memos, and contributing to investment committee discussions. An Investment Analyst will also assist in the evaluation and monitoring of the portfolios.

The Investment Analyst position is a two-to-four-year assignment, and high performers may be promoted to Senior Analyst / Associate.

Background Requirements:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or mathematics and a track record of academic excellence.
  • 0 – 3 years of Investment Banking, Equity Research, Corporate Development, or Private Equity experience.
  • An interest in and knowledge of investments (Private Equity), financial accounting, and economics.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity.
  • An ability to communicate effectively.
