Athletic Grounds Student Assistant
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:
Assist the Athletic Grounds Manager with the preparation, maintenance and beautification of natural and synthetic athletic fields, greenspace, commons, and landscape areas. Additional support is needed during the winter season for snow and ice removal, which may require flexible scheduling, including early mornings and evenings.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain turf including mowing, string trimming, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, etc.
- Prepare and maintain playing surfaces including field stripping, divot/wear area repair, grooming, etc.
- Install and maintain landscaping.
- Perform irrigation repair and maintenance.
- Prune, remove, spade and relocate trees.
- Perform general grounds work including leaf and trash pickup, sidewalk edging, snow and ice removal during winter months.
- Assist with winter operations that may involve working outside of standard hours (early mornings or evenings) to ensure safe and accessible athletic facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled as a University of Iowa student during the academic year.
- Must be able to move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be reliable and dependable
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain and snow).
- Flexibility to work occasional early morning or evening shifts during winter for snow removal.
- Ability to be respectful and courteous in all interactions with internal and external customers
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain the University Driving Policy is preferred.
HOURLY RATE:
- Starting rate is $10.00
WORK HOURS: Various shifts between 7 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be scheduled for early mornings, nights and weekends depending on event schedule. Student employees may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. May work up to 40 hour per week during academic break periods (spring, fall, winter and summer) as assigned.
