Job Description: 

  • General laboratory upkeep such as washing dishes, removing full biohazard bins, retrieving supplies, cleaning, etc.
  • Care and handling of research mice.
  • Administrative assistance and general clerical duties.
  • Beyond Spring 2026, there may be opportunities to additionally participate in research activities based on ability, availability, and dependability.

Work Schedule:

Hours are available during the Spring 2026 Semester on M-F between 10am and 5pm. We are willing to work around class schedule, but each shift worked must be 2-4 hours, and hours worked weekly must exceed 8 hours. Hours will continue to be available during school breaks and in the summer.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Interest in basic biological research.
  • It is essential the applicant be detail-oriented, very reliable, an active listener, communicative, and able to work independently. 
  • Willingness to handle mice in a research setting. 
  • No previous lab experience needed, will train.
  • Completion of ICON training in Basic Biological Safety (W004BO), Lab Chemical Safety (W008CM), Hazardous Waste (W07HAZ), Biohazardous Waste (W524HAZ), and Formaldehyde Safety (W470CM) is a positive.
  • Current freshman, sophomore, or junior.
  • Enthusiasm to apply for funding opportunities identified by the Office for Undergraduate Research at the University of Iowa.

If the hired candidate successfully advances into research involvement following the Spring 2026 semester, research hours can be compensated by academic credit if desired.
