Rec Services - Youth Camp Instructor
BASIC FUNCTION
To assist with the daily operations of the Hustling Hawkeyes Summer Camps Program at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center and Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrive at shift punctually and leave when replacement arrives or check-out is complete
- Instruct sport-based activities for daily groups participating in camps as well as other recreational activities for the entire camp
- Assist Supervisor with managing the care and safety of the campers
- Self-motivated, energetic and willingness to be flexible in duties and interactions with students
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times
- Focus on working as a team with other instructors, supervisors and any other camp staff
- Effectively communicate when meeting with campers, parent/guardians, co-workers, and Supervisors
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Interest/background in sports and recreation
- Strong leadership and communication skills
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be an University of Iowa student
- Previous day/summer camp work experience
- Pursuing degree in education, child psychology, sport management or related fields
LOCATION
- Campus Recreation and Wellness Center
WORK HOURS
- Availability throughout the months of June and July
- Availability during 7:00am-5:00pm Monday – Friday is preferred
- Ability to work continuous 5-6 hour shifts
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal Background Check upon hire
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- Minors on Campus Training
- Completion of University of Iowa Bloodborne Pathogens Training
- Recreational Services Orientation
