Basic job function
The University of Iowa Mobile App Team is looking for passionate and curious student collaborators to join us as Product Testers & Experience Partners. In this role, you’ll directly shape how thousands of students experience the Iowa Mobile App — from ideation and design to testing and launch. We’re looking for students who love solving problems, have an eye for detail, and want to help make the Iowa app more intuitive, engaging, and reflective of real student life.
Responsibilities
• Participate in Design Thinking: Contribute to brainstorming and design discussions for upcoming features, representing the authentic student voice.
• Prioritize Real Needs: Help identify what matters most to students and assist in refining feature priorities based on impact and urgency.
• Test Prototypes Before Development: Review and interact with early design mockups and prototypes, providing detailed, structured feedback on usability and clarity.
• Conduct Pre-Production Testing: Serve as a super user to test app builds before production releases — validating that features work as intended, meet accessibility standards, and create a seamless experience.
• Lead Peer Feedback Groups: Organize and lead small student feedback groups to collect diverse perspectives for future iterations.
• Identify Edge Cases & Improvements: Actively test for bugs, confusing workflows, and opportunities to enhance user engagement.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with the Product, Design, and Development teams to communicate feedback and help validate fixes or design updates.
Qualifications
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate/professional student at the University of Iowa.
• Passionate about improving the student experience through technology.
• Detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable giving constructive feedback.
• Basic familiarity with mobile apps, user interfaces, or digital platforms (no technical experience required).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Work hours
• Approximately 4–6 hours per week (flexible schedule around academic commitments).
• Periodic participation in design reviews, prototype walkthroughs, and app testing sessions.
