Peer Advisor
Position overview:
Peer Advisors of the Office of Student Financial Aid provide customer service to fellow students and parents that are inquiring about financial aid. In this role, you will be exposed to a fast-paced environment, working alongside other peer advisors and full-time staff that are eager to assist students/families navigating the financial aid process.
Peer advisors are responsible for answering inquires over the phone, in person, and over email. In this role, you will answer the questions and address any concerns from UI students and parents, or you will connect them with a full-time professional staff member.
Flexible work hours up to 20 hours per week (during the academic year) and 40 hours per week (during breaks and the summer). Must be available to work at least 10 hours per week. The Office of Student Financial Aid is located at 2400 University Capitol Centre (Old Cap Mall) and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8AM - 4:30PM and Wednesday 10AM - 4:30PM.
To be considered, you must be awarded Federal Work-Study through the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
This position is for undergraduates only - Graduate and Professional students will not be considered.
Summer and other school break availability is strongly preferred.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Service Operations and Outreach of the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Peer Advisors refine their communication and problem-solving skills, work collaboratively with other staff, and improve their time management. Additionally, you will develop a sense of connectedness to the University of Iowa campus as you learn more about resources on campus and interact with several different campus partners.
Position qualifications:
- Current Enrollment: Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Iowa. Preference will be given to students with two or more years remaining before conferring their degree.
- Work-Study Eligible: Required
- Summer and Holiday Break Availability: Preferred, but not required. Preference will be given to students that can work during Summer 2024.
- Strong Communication Skills: Written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail, grammar, and professionalism.
- Time Management: Organized, prompt, ability to manage a busy student schedule, and timely for scheduled shifts.
- Customer Service Experience: Preferred, but not required.
