This position is open to returning students. 10-15 hours a week.
Length of appointment: Spring 2026 semester & Academic Year 2026-27, with potential to extend.

Description:
As an Administrative Assistant for the Department of Computer Science (UIowaCS) office you will work mainly with the Department Administrator and Admin Services Specialist. This job requires you to interact with both the CS Administrative team as well as faculty, students, and alums. As an Administrative Assistant, you will complete daily tasks as well as long- and short-term projects that support the department in a variety of areas listed below. Your supervisor will work with you to determine projects that align to your career and development goals within the scope of the Computer Science administrative work. You will apply and learn a variety of transferable skills such as how to act in a professional setting, how to communicate with you supervisor and diverse individuals, organizational skills, time-management skills, listening skills, and collaboration. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with staff and faculty to promote Computer Science academic programs and activities.
- Creates engaging written and visual content for all social media platforms.
- Assists with monitoring the social media channel and activities and alerts appropriate staff to questions through social media venues.
- Greets office guests.
- Distributes mail.
- Updates and maintains web pages as directed.
- Tracks social media engagement.
- Collects program photos, including student activities, for posting.
Additional Project Examples:
- Supports development and production of biannual department newsletter.
- File organization and digitization.
- Survey administration.
- Supporting students and faculty with presentation/paper/poster design.
Qualifications required:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Demonstrated social media skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Experience with major social media platforms.
- FERPA training – prior to or at start of employment.
- Ability to learn new systems and work with discretion.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (inc. Word, Excel),
Qualifications desired:
- Experience with graphic design/video production/editing/software (e.g., Adobe Suite, Canva)
- Ability and interest in using data to update reports and create charts and graphs, as well as:
- handling/inventorying departmental materials for archival purposes.
- researching the historical note/short description for the department.
- Experience with content management systems (e.g., Drupal)
