Sustainability Intern

The City of Shoreview is seeking an intern to support natural resources staff with sustainability projects and the city’s climate action plan. The position will work on outreach/education efforts for a variety of programs such as waste and energy, develop informational materials for the public, and assist with other natural resources projects. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, a can-do attitude, and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups.

DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Assists with development, public engagement, and implementation of climate action plan
  • Assists with the food scraps pickup program and recycling education
  • Assists with creating energy resources
  • Assists with stormwater projects such as education and vegetation management
  • Other duties and special projects as appropriate or assigned

Note: This position requires regular and reliable attendance, the ability to concentrate and manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work well with others.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work 20-40 hrs. per week
  • Currently attending or recent undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental sciences, sustainability, natural resources, planning, or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • At least 18 years old

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with the public and in customer service
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

 

Hours: 20-40 varied daytime hours during the week, May/June through August
Wage: $20.00 per hour

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: No
Work Environment: Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, kneeling, bending, squatting, grasping and stooping required for daily activities. Limited lifting of 25 pounds or less is required occasionally. Duties of the job are performed in an office environment and outside.
