Clinical Student Assistant - Women's Wellness and Counseling Service - UIHC

The Department of Psychiatry Women’s Wellness & Counseling Service is seeking an undergraduate student to assist with patient referral and triage, appointment scheduling, and patient check-in/check-out services.

TIME COMMITMENT: 10-15 hours per week

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidates will possess the following skills/qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills: in person, on phone, in writing; the Undergraduate Clinical Student will interact with patients, clinic staff, and health care providers within the hospital and across the city/region/state. They will discuss various treatment options with patients and orient them to clinic procedures/operations. Previous counseling or direct patient interaction is recommended but not required.
  • Ability to type, to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and to manage the clinic phone line (incoming calls and voicemail messages).
  • Ability to identify tasks, develop workable solutions, and implement change that integrates feedback from multiple sources.
  • Ability to work independently yet seek assistance and input from others when needed.
  • Ability to make complex treatment/care recommendations (triage decisions) considering patient needs as well as clinic capabilities.
  • Basic understanding of mental illness; compassion and empathy for persons in emotional distress.
  • Basic understanding of and respect for women’s reproductive care and mental health.
  • Willingness to complete necessary job training requirements, such as those pertaining to the use of Electronic Medical Records, patient care, scheduling of patient appointments, etc.

Note that this clinic runs from 8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday. We are seeking someone with availability to work in-person and for 4-hour blocks of time, if possible.
