Engineering Library Support Assistant
The Lichtenberger Engineering Library is hiring for the Fall 2026 Semester.
Student Assistants are responsible for acquiring job‑related knowledge and performing a broad range of duties across the University Libraries. Student employees support daily operations by assisting library users and maintaining library collections while developing transferable skills in customer service, communication, and time management. Tasks requiring the use of specialized software are repetitive in nature and do not require the student to know the software prior to hire.
Students who are remaining in Iowa City over Summer Break may be able to start prior to Fall Semester and continue into the semester.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, professional assistance to library users in person
- Shelve, retrieve, and organize library materials according to established procedures
- Answer basic questions about library spaces, services, and resources
- Fulfill patron requests by scanning or photocopying materials, paging items for on‑site use and interlibrary loan.
- Maintain a welcoming and respectful environment
Required Qualifications
- Must be a registered student at the University of Iowa
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Reliability, attention to detail, and punctuality
- Ability to follow procedures and ask questions as needed
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using the University of Iowa Libraries
- Plan to remain in Iowa City year-round including holidays and Summer.

Compensation: $11/hour
