Grants Intern
Support the Grants Manager to research and identify grants, foundation opportunities and evaluate the eligibility to apply; assist in developing grant proposals; assist with the grant development process and administrative needs under supervision; and assist in assembling all pertinent grant material packages for submission; develop knowledge of The Salvation Army programs; assist the Grants Manager to collate information for follow-up reports, updates and to maintain the grants management database. Strong interest in non-profit sector and good organizational and administrative skills.
Available for a minimum 15 hours per week. At least a 3-month commitment.
Assignments may include but not be limited to the following:
· Monitor select websites and publications for funding related information
· Update database as assigned
· Assist in preparations for visits and presentations with foundations or funders
· Write content letters, success stories, blogs, and fact sheets
· Assist in events
· Perform administrative duties such as: filing, preparing list of major/potential funders, research and updating information, and assisting in preparing correspondence and mailings
Minimum Qualifications:
· Enthusiasm for The Salvation Army’s mission and the families we serve, and an open and friendly spirit
· An interest in non-profit development or philanthropy
· Proficiency in software applications such as Excel and Word. Advanced Excel skills and database experience is a plus.
· Strong communication and organizational skills.
· Proficient to very strong writing skills
· Experience in or willingness to learn about major giving within the development and philanthropy professions
· Relevant professional experience or academic background in a related field such as marketing, communications, nonprofit management, public relations.
