Operations and Logistics Intern
Operations Interns: Camp Lincoln/Camp Lake Hubert hires specific staff members to work within our central Warehouses. These staff members have a variety of responsibilities including overseeing supplies, driving campers and staff in our vans to off-camp activities, purchasing, basic maintenance, and other special projects as needed. Given the seasonal nature of our organization, each day will bring new challenges and projects. Alongside a daily routine, sorting mail, managing and delivering supplies.
Support Staff Support Staff work behind the scenes to ensure camp is running smoothly, drivers, food service, health center staff, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, in our offices, or warehouse operations. A Support Staff member lives in a cabin with a group of other Support Staff. During a Support Staff member’s down time, they may take advantage of the camp’s facilities and are encouraged to actively participate in camp life. Applicants must demonstrate a strong aptitude in their specific area.
Our Operations/Warehouse staff often complete internships in Operations, business administration, project management, and logistics with us.
Job purpose
This position is the first point of contact for transportation to and from camp. The Driver will take care of shuttles for staff and campers and will assist the Operations Director with the upkeep and inventory of the Lincoln Warehouse.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide any transportation needs for staff and campers as it is assigned or needed.
Drive airport shuttles to and from the Minneapolis St. Paul airport as needed.
Assist in laundry delivery and pick-up.
Drive campers and staff to assigned locations in BLA or trips as needed.
Driving the camp emergency vehicle during designated times to ensure it is in proper working order.
Assist in the Operations Director with tasks around camp and in the Warehouse as directed.
Water plants/flowers around camp.
Maintain the Warehouse and the inventory.
Assist those who came to the warehouse for supplies.
Assist in answering the phones and general inquires.
Deliver water jugs and pick up trash from designated areas around camp.
Operate camp store including inventory control, camper accounts, and record keeping.
Clean laundry rooms and collect laundry money from machines.
Organize the merchandise and run the camp store during designated times.
Assist in miscellaneous projects as needed.
Collect mail and distribute mail and packages.
Collect all mail and packages from the post office daily.
Organize the mail by camp, camper/staff, and cabin.
Deliver all mail and packages in a timely manner.
Collect all outgoing mail and packages from both camps and deliver to the post office in a timely manner.
Deliver unclaimed packages to cabins at the end of each day.
Manage incoming camper packages and confiscate any prohibited items.
Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their cabin throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
Be aware of and implement safety guidelines, as well as role model them.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with camp health manager and/or resident camp director when appropriate.
Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to maintenance.
Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
Learn the camp creed and implement the values into everyday life that set a good example for the campers and staff around you.
Other Job Duties:
Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities that require everyone’s presence.
Contribute to verbal and written evaluations (for co-staff, campers and directors) and communication as requested.
Maintain confidentiality on issues with regards to staff, campers, etc.
Qualifications/Experience
Must be +21 years of age with a valid US Driver’s License.
Must have a clean driving record.
Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work.
Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
Working conditions
This job is performed indoors but might be outdoors in a variety of settings. Outdoor activities will result in exposure to dirt, dust, loud noises, smoke and other outdoor elements. Protective safety clothing may occasionally be required including appropriate clothing, gloves, goggles and shoes as needed. Certain activities may include extended periods of sitting, standing and walking.
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to
campers and staff.
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency
procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire,evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Physical requirements
Some physical requirements of the Warehouse/Driver position could be endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching, and a large amount of walking up and down stairs; requires handeye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, poison ivy and animals such
as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
