KIPP Texas- Houston Graduate Teaching Fellowship

The KIPP Texas- Houston Graduate Teaching Fellowship is a prestigious, paid two-year program designed for new teachers. Fellows spend the first year of the program learning from a mentor teacher and gradually increasing their teaching responsibilities before moving into a lead teaching role in the second year of the program. 

During both years of the fellowship, Fellows receive professional development and coaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education. At the successful conclusion of the two-year fellowship, Fellows will have earned their Master of Arts in Teaching and their Texas Teaching Certification. 

Fellows receive a salary and full benefits both years, in addition to tuition contributions. The total value of the program is over $105,00. Fellows are placed in all KIPP Texas- Houston schools in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. Fellows are paid $30,000 in Year 1 and $53,000 in Year 2. Fellows will pay tuition ($7,000) in their 2nd year.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 
The Graduate Teaching Fellow will:

1.   Participate in Professional Development & Relay Coursework
     A.   Attend a two week-long summer term before the first year and a one week-long summer term between the first and second year of the program in addition to two weeknight classes a month and one Saturday class each month
     B.   Complete 8-10 hours of Relay online coursework monthly
     C.   Participate in three-hour weekly Deliberate Practice session with other Fellows (during the work day) 
     D.   Attend all school and regional level professional development (PD) sessions.
     E.   Successfully complete Relay assessments and gateways

2.   Gradually increase teaching responsibilities throughout the first year
     A.   Begin teaching first few minutes of mentor teacher’s class in September, and gradually increase teaching responsibilities throughout the year until Fellow is teaching the full class period every day.
     B.   Participate in other teaching and staff responsibilities, which can include, but are not limited to: small-group interventions; assisting during independent practice; assisting mentor teacher in lesson planning, preparing lessons, and grading; and supervise at lunch, arrival, and dismissal

3.   Serve as a Lead Teacher in the second year of the program
     A.   Perform all duties listed in the job description for a lead teacher, which includes but is not limited to lesson planning, teaching a full load of classes, creating a behavior management system for the classroom, and fulfilling other supervisory and staff duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Knowledge:

·   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2.75 GPA required by June 2019.
