AmeriCorps Summer 2019 Respite Apprentice

Easter Seals Wisconsin (ESW) is looking for 30 energetic people to serve as part of our team to provide recreation and care for children, youth and adults with disabilities who attend ESW Summer Camps!

This commitment begins on May 20, 2019 and will end on August 16, 2019.

The responsibilities include: provide ideas for, plan and lead camp programs; assist camper to participate fully in activities, such as arts, sports and games; accept responsibility for the overall health and safety of the campers; and assist, instruct and supervise campers in personal care skills. Members receive training on how to provide recreation and care for people with disabilities, conflict resolution and civic participation.

AmeriCorps members receive room and board during the entire time spent at camp and a total living allowance of $2,000 for serving approximately 11:00am on Sunday - 4:00pm on Friday, with weekends off (still able to stay @ camp). In addition, upon successful completion of all training and service requirements, AmeriCorps members will receive an education award of $2,960.00 that can be used to pay for college or to repay student loans. An eagerness to work with people with disabilities, including and ability to work as a team member, with minimal supervision and perform all position responsibilities and duties. Essential functions include the ability to: (1) lift 30 lbs. to waist level (2) physically assist adult campers, (3) identify and respond to environmental or other hazards, (4) observe and assess for campers' behavioral and physical well-being, (5) use expressive and receptive communication skills and (6) enforce safety, emergency and behavior management techniques.
