VISTA Member at The Collaborative

The Collaborative promotes the development of a healthy and involved community supporting substance-free youth in a caring environment. The Collaborative provides programming for low-income and at-risk youth and families. Programs are based on the positive youth development philosophy, and help build skills that help youth succeed in school, as well as assets and social capital that help them transcend poverty. Programs create an environment for healthy futures: Refuse to Use prevention program provides youth free access to a local ski mountain if they pledge to remain substance-free; middle and high school empowerment groups; after school programs; mentoring program that pairs youth with caring adults; summer camps, which promote healthy choices, recreation, and education. 

The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program (VYT) supports effective initiatives that help low-income youth and families develop job skills & academic proficiency, gain access to affordable housing & healthy food, and cultivate the social assets that they need to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors such as opioid use, and ultimately thrive. 

The VISTA builds organizational capacity by improving communications strategies & digital data collection/use; increasing capacity to mobilize volunteers; researching & applying for grants; planning & holding events (annual membership & community meetings); connecting with community partners, schools, & civic organizations; engaging in public outreach & building support for programs; developing systems to better serve low-income residents; and implementing strategies to achieve community & economic development goals. Should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, & have good judgement & computer skills. 

Preferred skills: graphic design or advanced data & digital skills; ability to serve independently or in a team.

Choice of $6,095 Education Award or $1,800 cash stipend available upon successful completion of service. After completing a year of service, the VISTA member will receive non-competitive eligibility status for federal employment. Loan forbearance and interest accrual payment for qualified student loans available. Relocation reimbursement of up to $1,000 and settling in allowance of up to $550 available for qualified applicants. Health coverage and child care assistance are available for qualified applicants.
