Production Solutions Software Engineer, Instrument Team

Production Solutions Software Engineer, Instrument Team

Synthego is transforming scientists into designers with the first fully automated molecular biology lab. Lab automation is no cakewalk, though. Our Laboratory Information Management System sits as manager of all scientists and instruments, with our instrument software stack executing all assigned orders. Our instrument software stack has the crucial responsibility of ensuring assigned instructions were executed accurately, every time, all the time.

As a Production Solutions Software Engineer, you’ll become the primary interface between the instrument team and the production floor, ensuring that our software stack executes those orders accurately, or debugging the root cause if it’s not. You’ll know our instrument software stack inside-and-out, find and fix the pain points, and scope larger projects as a fellow member of the Instrument Software team. With your help, we’ll keep our symphony of automated instruments humming in tune.

What you’ll do

  • You are frontline support for all production needs. Requests for help will flow through you, be fixed, triaged, or escalated as appropriate
  • Fix the pain points. You will know what causes production the most problems today, so dive in and fix it in a way that it doesn’t bother you tomorrow
  • Ownership of pilot / out of band projects that are not yet supported by our LIMS system
  • A general understanding of all Synthego software systems and a deep understanding of how to debug them

About you

  • BS or Equivalent in CS
  • 1+ years of industry experience working with industrial and instrument controls
  • Fluent in Python, Linux, and bash
  • Understanding of C#
  • An eagerness to understand and fix all of the things
  • Experience debugging complex systems
  • Great communication skills
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in the Biotech domain
  • Familiarity with Python web frameworks (Django or Flask)
  • Experience with liquid handling instruments (Hamiltons, Tecans, etc)
  • Experience with electronics, especially debugging serial communications (I2C, SPI)
  • Experience with PCB board design
  • Understanding of AWS or other cloud services
