FLCC Project A.N.T. (AmeriCorps Nonnative plant Terminators) consists of 50 members who placed in pairs throughout the Florida State Parks. These members focus on habitat restoration through the management of invasive exotic plants. Members help to reduce invasive exotic plant infestations through various land management techniques and by recruiting volunteers from the community to help with this important restoration effort. Educating park visitors about the importance of Florida’s ecosystems and issues of invasive exotic plants is also an important piece.

A.N.T. members also assist with making trail improvements including maintaining trails for visitor use, developing trail interpretive and informational materials and conducting assessments of trail user accessibility and environmental impact.

A.N.T. members often work in harsh Florida environmental conditions, and are outside in the field the majority of their service, serving alongside one other AmeriCorps counterpart. Members will have the opportunity to network within the Florida Park Service, and acquire onsite trainings to further enhance their member personal and professional skills.

Once you submit your application, if you are selected for a pre-screening, program staff will contact you to determine your preferred placements. At that point, you will be able to indicate which state park placement is your first, second, and third choice.

These members will work with the district’s Park Program Development Specialist (PPDS) to identify specific parks in their district that are in additional need of volunteer recruitment, outreach, and interpretation efforts.

Project R.O.A.R. members develop outreach material using various computer software and often travel to locations within their district to perform outreach and interpretation. The ideal Project R.O.A.R. members will have positive attitudes, and enjoy working with people!

These members should be prepared to be away from their home for lengths of time each month, sometimes working in harsh Florida environmental conditions and in close quarters with 9 other individuals. Members with trail and/or construction skills, and have a passion for the outdoors are encouraged to apply!
