Communications Intern
(Contact Internship and Career Advisor to see if position is eligible for academic credit)
Responsibilities:
- Assist in creating messaging for both First Ask and our candidates.
- Read drafts of anything Directors post.
- Research issue areas and successful ways candidates have navigated issues, events, etc.
- Cultivate press contacts/pitching First Ask stories.
- Press clips!
- Research new potential partners and help create pitches for that partnership
- Research women in the news in competitive districts to run for office.
- Assist with additional responsibilities as needed
Experience:
- Self-starter on projects
- Ability to think creatively
- Excellent writing skills
- Press experience desirable but not required
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite a plus
Expectations and Benefits of the First Ask Internship:
- Learn the ins and outs of campaigns, community organizing, and grassroots organizations.
- Participate in weekly all-staff calls to discuss goals, news, etc
- Connect to people that work in your field at different organizations
- Attend events through and for First Ask (fundraisers, partner events, etc)
- Weekly 1:1 with a Co-Director
- Weekly lunch/coffee with a woman that excels in her field to learn about that field
Staff will work with the school/advisor on achieving desired learning outcomes and completing all necessary paperwork.
Minimum 10hr/week
