Marketing and Communications Associate

The Marketing and Communications Associate will support the victim services programs and communications activities for the DoD Safe Helpline. This will include implementing promotional initiatives, presenting at events, working with bases and installations, creating and distributing materials and managing online promotion.

This position is also responsible for tracking and analyzing impact metrics and providing recommendations for program enhancement and growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement communications and advertising plans and strategies
  • Generate visibility and increase usage of DoD Safe Helpline.
  • Manage implementation of online and print advertising campaigns (e.g., Google, Bing, Facebook). Monitor analytics and make updates as necessary.
  • Create concepts and write text for online and print advertisements.
  • Work with DoD media outlets to place ads and promotional messages.
  • Create promotional digital, video and printed materials.
  • Draft promotional text and newsletter articles.
  • Support development of social media graphics and posts.
  • Manage Safe Helpline speaking engagements in the National Capital Region.
  • Support and participate in Safe Helpline speaking engagements nationwide, and OCONUS.
  • Develop relationships with Local Safe HelpRoom Moderators to resolve problems, and facilitate opportunities for platform improvements and development.
  • Manage the implementation of Safe Helpline website updates and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage the implementation of Safe Helpline app updates and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Support responder database audit, working with military services, SAPRO and RAINN staff as necessary to perform semi-annual audits and update information.
  • Draft written materials such as internal memos, reports.
  • Work with services, bases, and installations to promote Safe Helpline.
  • Gather data for and draft monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Manage creation and fulfillment of printed materials.
  • Develop concepts and scripts for web videos. Manage third-party video producer/editor.
  • Identify additional opportunities for promotion that may arise in connection with developing news stories and social events.
  • All other duties as assigned.

While the position is based in RAINN's DC office, the liaison must be available to work from SAPRO's Alexandria office when required.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, communications, marketing or related field.
  • Experience working in a client-facing role.
  • At least four years' experience in program management or communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Experience delivering in-person presentations and trainings.
  • Experience working on sexual violence issues or on a crisis hotline.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
  • Comfort making cold calls and developing new relationships over the phone and in-person.
  • Experience placing and managing online and print advertisements.
  • Experience identifying and managing third party vendors.
  • Must be articulate, organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and respond after hours as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed (20%).

  • Must have vision correctable to a level where individual can operate a computer; visualize text on a computer monitor.

Environmental Conditions:
There are no harmful environmental conditions that are present in this position. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
