Impact Fellowship

ORGANIZING JOBS WITH IMPACT
Our country is in desperate need right now of positive change, on the environment and many other issues. But we know that real change only happens when people are organized to take action. That’s what Impact organizers do.

The theory behind our work is simple: Winning and sustaining positive social change requires a solid foundation of public and political support. Our campaign organizers build strong, enduring networks of support that help win positive change for our health and environment now, and provide the power to win more change in the future.

WHAT ORGANIZERS DO
When faced with resistance to change, often the only way you can win is to get lots of people to join together in taking the right action at the right time. Organizers make this happen. And in so doing, they lay the groundwork for more positive change by recruiting, mobilizing and empowering new coalitions and constituencies.

WHAT IMPACT ORGANIZERS DO
Impact organizers go to the places that often decide whether a campaign will be won or lost. It could be a state that’s home to a swing-vote senator on critical legislation. It could be a city where a key decision is being made about clean energy.

Here’s just one example. We want a future where we get all of our energy from renewable sources like the sun and the wind. That’s a big goal, but our friends at Environment America have a plan to move our country in the right direction. The plan calls for getting dozens of cities, colleges and others to commit to that future—in cities both big and small, and in liberal as well as conservative states.

That’s where Impact comes in. Last year, we had organizers in five states, covering cities from Boston to Las Cruces, New Mexico. One of our organizers ran the campaign that convinced Las Cruces to commit to 100 percent renewable energy. Now our team is closer to getting more cities, colleges and even states to make the same commitment.

During the summer, you’ll direct a campaign office, building our partner organizations by canvassing and training others to canvass. Last summer, we ran a campaign to protect wildlife from waste by calling for state bans on single-use plastic items, and worked to convince McDonald’s to get our life-saving antibiotics out of its entire meat supply chain.

With Impact, you make a difference now; the work you do builds the power we need to win more victories; and you gain the experience that U.S. PIRG, Environment America and other groups look for when hiring new advocates and campaign directors.

If you can see yourself next year organizing to make a difference for our environment, our health and our future, apply to join the Impact team.
