AmeriCorps VISTA SCP School Garden Network Coordinator

Title: School Garden Network Coordinator

The School Garden Network Coordinator will build the capacity of teaching gardens through support rendered to individual garden/garden program sites and by continuing the development of the network. The School Garden Network Coordinator will partner with University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Extension Office and the University of the South's Office of Civic Engagement. This position provides service to school and community gardens in Grundy, Franklin, and Marion Counties located in Tennessee.

The aim of the school garden network is to connect key stakeholders involved with school gardens throughout the service area as a means to share resources and improve programs to more effectively provide the benefits of teaching gardens to the community, by the community.

They will create new & enhance existing teaching garden systems by supporting community stakeholders through development of organizational plans, implementation of organizational plans, and educational coordination.

The coordinator will also collaborate with teachers to seek out grant opportunities for garden programming within the school system. They will assist in the grant writing process. They will develop systems for the management and reporting for grants received.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a one-year service term that’s main mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. Our program is located in Sewanee, Tennessee. We serve in Grundy, Franklin, and Marion Counties in Southeast Tennessee. 40 hr work week minimum. $1000.00/month or about $12,000/year.
