Special Education Alt. Certification Program

Noble is Chicago’s highest-performing and largest network of public charter high schools. Our 18 schools and 1,300 employees currently serve over 12,300 students, 98% of whom are minority, 89% low-income, and 83% first-generation college goers. The School Quality and Rating Policy scores for the Chicago Public Schools rated Noble campuses as ten of the top fifteen public high schools in the city. 18% of our student body has an IEP, representing over 2,000 of our students,over 75% of whom are admitted to four-year universities. We want individuals motivated by ensuring the success of all of their diverse learners to join our Special Education team for the 2019-2020 academic year through a unique pathway. Special Education at Noble offers individualized and comprehensive support for our students who need it most. Our Special Educators believe that anyone, regardless of different ability levels, can be successful in post-secondary pursuits. Noble Learning Specialists provide individualized opportunities for students to make academic, behavioral, and social-emotional gains. As a Special Educator at Noble, you become your students’ champion and advocate, spearheading the collaboration among the different stakeholders in their education. 

Noble is committed to investing in and developing our educators who want to serve our highest need students. For this reason, Noble is partnering with the Relay Graduate School of Education to give participants the opportunity to earn state licensure and a Master of Arts in Teaching in just two years. Participants will serve as full-time special education instructors at a Noble campus and will undergo professional development in this high-needs area though a dynamic graduate program. Grounded in the practices of successful teachers and schools, this Master’s program combines online and in-person learning, with 40% of the coursework completed online and class directed by a veteran specialist 2-4 times per month. The special education curriculum provides a foundation in all disabilities, with a specific focus on developing your expertise for learning disabilities and high-incidence behavioral needs. You’ll also learn how to advocate on behalf of your students to ensure that they receive the services and support they deserve. At the end of the two year program, you will graduate with your Master of Arts in Teaching and your Illinois teaching license with an LBS1 endorsement.
