Teachers Needed for Paid Mission to Pacific Island of Saipan

Hafa Adai and warm greetings from Saipan Community School!

Saipan Community School is located on the beautiful tropical island of Saipan within the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands. The island offers a broad range of outdoor sports, leisure, and aquatics activities; and our tropical climate means that outdoor activities are available year round. The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands affords a low income tax rate through a generous rebate system. This means that your salary results in greater take-home pay than in many other jurisdictions.

SCS is a small mission school serving the community of Saipan through quality Christian education. This past year, we had 105 students from K-8th grade.

For SCS School Year 2022-23 (Aug 2022- May 2023) it is looking like we will most likely have open positions for:

· Jr High Teacher - Math and Science

· Jr High Teacher - ESL and Computer Science

· Jr High Teacher - Reading and Language Arts

· Elementary Classroom Teacher - 4th Grade

Requirements:

Saipan Community School teacher requirements are to be a graduate of an accredited U.S. college with certification in the area of employment, and a love of teaching kids. Teachers must be Christians and must be of like faith and doctrine of Saipan Community Church. Teachers need to be sensitive to individual differences, have patience to help students reach their potential, respect the dignity and worth of each student, and strive to promote a positive self-image in each student. SCS Employment information and downloadable application can be found on our website at:  http://saipancommunityschool.com/employment.html

Teachers are responsible for reporting to the principal, guiding pupils in learning activities in subjects included in curriculum, safety and welfare of pupils in classrooms, on campus, and on field trips, maintain accurate records of students’ attendance and progress by preparing periodic progress reports, and report cards. The teacher is to maintain an orderly classroom with established routines and discipline, prepare daily and/or weekly lesson plans and materials based on curriculum.

The starting salary is $20,938 and it is a mission opportunity. However, when compared to the other private schools on Saipan, it's on par as we provide on-campus apartment housing for off island teachers. The teachers pay a low monthly rent, regardless if they share with another teacher in a two-bedroom apartment or have a studio. Teachers are responsible for their own utilities, water, cable, and internet. Some teachers will share a 2-bedroom depending on the gender of the teachers we hire. We also have two (studio) one-bedroom units as well.

Saipan Community School is recognized island-wide for its academic excellence. The school uses US Common Core Standards for its basic curriculum, with text from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and online learning support services such as IXL, Seasaw, ClassDojo, Thinkwave, etc. In addition to core subjects, each student is also trained in Art, Music, Computers and PE. Band is offered as an elective for students in 4th-8th grades and Ukulele is offered for students 3rd-8th grades. Students participate in sporting competitions sponsored by the Public School System and as a part of the Private Schools Sports League.

Our students successfully compete in local athletics, regional band and music competitions, National Speech and Debate, Math Court, the Scripps Spelling Bee, a school-wide STEM Fair, Young Writers Workshop, Art Show and Cultural Day.

Saipan Community School's mission is to prepare elementary and middle school students for further studies and to help them become productive members of society by providing a quality academic education in a Christian environment, emphasizing the importance of integrity, morality, civic responsibility, a positive work ethic, and a proper relationship to God and fellow men and women.
