Youth Counselor

Woodward Academy, a Sequel Youth & Family Services Program, is a residential treatment facility for male and female youth who are adjudicated delinquent or “child in need of assistance” (CINA). Woodward Academy offers three highly structured programs aimed at redirecting delinquent, negative behaviors to positive, socially acceptable patterns through introducing students to a normative culture. Woodward’s treatment philosophy focuses on behavioral and cognitive change through the establishment of a normative culture model and offender specific treatment services.  
Youth Counselors work with students every day and are a part of a team that are helping youth to make positive changes in their lives. Youth Counselors supervise students on their dorms and in the classrooms and participate in counseling on a daily basis.

The qualifications for the youth counselor position include a high school diploma or GED and previous work or volunteer experience working with kids is preferred. A college degree in the Human Services field is not required but preferred.  It is an essential function of the job that staff be capable of participating in physical training activities and be capable of physically restraining the students if and when necessary. A State of Iowa class D3 chauffeur’s license and clear MVR is preferred.
