Grade I Art Teacher

About the Park School


The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade VIII independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The art teacher is a member of the school’s art department and reports to the Lower Division Head. This part-time position starts immediately and continues through June 2019. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the visual arts, lesson planning, and be skilled in teaching students to work with a variety of two and three-dimensional materials. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member who is self-directed, well-organized; has a good sense of humor; a love of the visual arts; and a passion for teaching the visual arts to elementary school-aged children.

Roles & Responsibilities


  • Teach art to Grade I students
  • Ensure that respect for diversity, equity and inclusion is emphasized as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community and the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in particular
  • Implement creative and innovative curriculum and instruction
  • Differentiate instruction
  • Foster a classroom environment where students feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes and be curious
  • Work in partnership with students and their families

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience preferred
  • Elementary school teaching experience preferred
  • Experience with drawing and painting
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the relationship between curriculum, subject matter, and child development
  • Experience working in a diverse community
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students and adults - patience, flexibility and empathy
  • Strong communication skills - written and oral
