DER Demonstration Projects Student Intern

The Electric Power Research Institute, a leader in guiding the evolution of smarter grids and the electric power industry, is seeking capable team members that will help us “connect the dots” between theory and research. We’re conducting first-of-kind demonstration projects with utilities around the world and need your help to direct research efforts, analyze field results, and communicate our findings to the global community.

Through our student program, you’ll gain valuable experience working among the best and brightest in the energy industry at our Knoxville, TN facility featuring our state-of-the-art power quality, customer systems, communications, and cybersecurity laboratories.

For this position, we’re looking for:
  • An interest in the electric power industry, and an inquisitive attitude about new technology and emerging research;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently, reaching out for guidance when necessary;
  • Pursuing Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree with relevant course work in science, engineering, and/or business
The ideal candidate will have one or more of the fol.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages used for data analytics, such as MATLAB, Python, or R;
  • Familiarity with power electronics systems, controls, and their applications to the energy industry; or
  • Background in power systems (equipment or studies) and contemporary issues in electricity distribution
  • Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher is strongly preferred.
