Music Therapist

POSITION OVERVIEW
As a  Music Therapist with Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Service you will provide treatment services that are goal oriented and directed towards music therapy education services, and general music therapy services designed to meet the needs, competencies, capabilities, and interests of patients and their caregivers from adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Some general duties will include:
  • Coordinate music therapy services that provide interventions either directly or through trained employees, paid or volunteers.
  • Complete music therapy assessment within five working days of team member's request.
  • Develop a plan of care that includes diagnosis/problem area, interventions and goals in accordance with the needs of specific age groups in terms of their physical and motor development, psychosocial development and intellectual/language development within one working day of initial team staffing.
  • Provide treatment services, music educational services, and general music services.
  • Document patient's response to interventions and treatment timely.
  • Plan and coordinates community outings.
  • Plan multi-therapy group activities.
  • Coordinate the Voices for Hospice bi-annual event.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding ACCHS patients, families, and business.
  • Maintain professional appearance and manner.
  • Is comfortable with exposure to animals.

LOCATION: Wausau, Wisconsin – Aspirus Hospice House
 
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Our ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
  • Possesses certification by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (BMT) required.
  • At least one year of experience working in the field of music therapy is desired to enhance and develop skills, with experience in a clinical setting working with hospice and palliative patients beneficial.
  • Previous professional experience working with hospice, in-home care settings, working with people regarding death, dying, and bereavement, and/or working on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Possesses ability to cope with a work environment that deals with death, dying, and bereavement. Possesses skills necessary to be compassionate to those who are grief stricken and/or dealing with loss.
  • Possesses ability to effectively communicate in writing along with coordination skills.
  • Possesses ability to recruit and train staff and volunteers who are interested in providing music therapy services.
  • Is able to travel to patient/client homes to provide patient/client.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid Wisconsin Driver's License required.
  • Possesses automobile liability insurance with minimum $100,000/$300,000 coverage required, or $300,000 combined single-limit liability.

EDUCATION
Candidates should possess one or more of the following:
  • Knowledge of music therapy standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy.
