Elementary thru Middle School Program Summer 2019 Interns

DREAM (formerly known as Harlem RBI), is seeking dynamic, motivated individuals to serve as interns in our summer programs during the summer of 2019.
 
Like all DREAM staff, the High School Intern should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of DREAM and should have substantial expertise in all areas of responsibility. I. DREAM University Intern
  • Facilitate and support in the development and facilitation of DREAM University, our summer middle school program with DreamBuilders, staff/ student orientation with an opportunity to lead an advisory group
  • Refine training materials for our goal setting workshops with our middle school youth;
  • Developing and Implementing:
  • Restorative Justice PBL activities for Youth
  • Enrichment/ Teambuilding Activities during Recreation Block
  • Opportunity to Lead an Advisory group

II. High School Access Intern:
  • Create DREAM specific high school directory (high schools that meet college and career readiness criteria)
  • Build independent day/boarding school directory that includes data on school performance
  • Research updated high school performance data
  • Draft calendar/timeline of important dates for high school access including open houses and high school placement program application deadlines
  • Assist in the creation of additional resources for families going through the high school application process
  • Manage student files
 
III. Real Kids Operations Interns:
  • The interns will have the opportunity to intern under the supervision of the Camps Manager. The ideal candidate
  • has an active interest in youth development and has a can-do attitude in serving our youth as best possible. See
  • below for responsibilities:
  • Support with the enrollment process (i.e. scheduling, calendar management, etc.);
  • Manage and organize instructional materials to ensure efficiency in distribution;
  • Support individual and groups of youth and chaperone field trips, as needed.
  • Support with family outreach and communication (i.e. mass mailing, and phone calls);
  • Support with auditing of participant files;
  • Support with day-to-day operations (i.e. front desk).

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate status at an accredited University;
  • Some experience in education;
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel);
  • Competent in Google Suite;
  • Strong verbal and written communication;
  • Experience with research, especially education/school-based learning;
  • Approachable and engaging presence - ability to connect with adolescents;
  • Facilitation skills - ability to lead a group of 20-30 students and remain flexible; (Dream-U Intern)
  • Ability to collect, audit and record data;
  • Strong organizational skills - ability to coordinate materials, supplies, attendance lists, etc. to determine logistics for workshops and ensure smooth operation of events.
  • Professionalism, dependability and punctuality are a must;
  • Attention to detail is a must;
  • Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently;
  • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem-solving skills;
  • Willingness to learn.

HOURS: 25-35 hours/week. Schedule is flexible.
COMPENSATION: Unpaid but course credit or volunteer arrangements are available.
