Development Summer 2019 Interns

DREAM(formerly known as Harlem RBI), an award winning youth development program, is seeking dynamic, motivated individual to serve as Development Interns during the summer of 2019.
 
Like all DREAM staff, the Development Interns should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of DREAM and should have substantial expertise in all areas of responsibility.   • Communications Intern
  • Special Events Intern

I. Communications Intern:
  • The Communications Intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities and will work closely with the Communications staff while have the opportunity for small independent project management as well. For the right candidate, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the details of non-profit communications and marketing.
  • Creating social media content and monitoring accounts/metrics;
  • Support in preparing for organization-wide events by creating collateral, talking points, etc.;
  • Assist the Communications team in the execution of all external facing documents, etc.;
  • Managing merchandise organization and distribution;
  • Building and maintaining press lists;
  • Perform clerical duties, including filing, organizing existing files and data entry;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
II. Special Events Intern:
  • The Special Events Intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities and will work closely with the Development staff while also having the opportunity for independent project management. For the right candidate, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the details of events and nonprofit fundraising.
  • Assist with annual fundraising gala, Bids for Kids and event related logistics including but not limited to:
  • Help with silent auction and gift bag solicitations
  • Signage creation
  • Fundraising reports
  • Mailings
  • Guest name tracking
  • Invoicing and donor acknowledgement
  • Journal advertisements
  • Day of Staffing support;
  • Work closely with Special Events Manager & Coordinator on summer program events such as Graduation and other events;
  • Help execute the planning and logistics for Championship Day on Friday, August 9 which is a culminating summer celebration for our REAL Kids program with over 700 attendees;
  • Work on foundation materials including silent auction and gift bag solicitation for Diamond Ball, our Young Professional event in the fall of 2019;
  • Design, create, and execute overall system with Special Assistant of ongoing solicitation strategy for auction and gift bag sponsors for all fundraising events;
  • Vendor research for merchandise, event needs, and other related projects;
  • Clerical Duties, including filing, merchandise inventory, mailings and Salesforce data clean up;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
III. Grants Intern:
  • The Grants Intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities and will work closely with the Communications staff while have the opportunity for small independent project management as well. For the right candidate, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the details of non-profit grant writing.
  • Conduct background, prospect, and industry/statistical research;
  • Write grant proposals and gather information for reporting;
  • Assist with site visits and events organized by the Institutional Giving/Grants and Development Team;
  • Perform some clerical duties, including filing, organizing existing files and data entry;
  • Coalesce research findings in clear, concise summaries;
  • Help edit and fact-check grant proposals and reports;
  • Work with a dynamic, fun Grants team of three;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
IV. Major Gifts Intern:
  • The Major Gifts intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities and will work closely with the entire Development
  • team and across other departments within the organization. They will lead stewardship for one of our cornerstone
  • fundraising campaigns, called Team Sponsorship. For the right candidate, this is an excellent opportunity to gain
  • experience on a major gifts team and learn about donor stewardship. Responsibilities include:
  • Execute Team Sponsorship campaign stewardship by becoming intimately familiar with our summer REAL
  • Kids program; work closely with other interns to visit multiple teams per week throughout the summer;
  • Assist with Corporate Partnership stewardship including lead sponsor planning and execution for the end of summer celebration event, Championship Day;
  • Support Salesforce database management;
  • Assist with donor prospect research;
  • Assist with corporate volunteer engagements throughout the summer including softball and wiffle ball tournaments;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS for all roles:
  • Undergraduate status at an accredited University;
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills;
  • Experience in nonprofit marketing & communications, a plus;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and Internet);
  • Previous database experience a plus (not required);
  • Ability to work & manage projects within a team structure as well as independently;
  • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem solving skills;
  • Attention to detail is a must;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Professionalism, dependability and punctuality are a must;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and Internet);
  • Sports knowledge (particularly baseball and softball) is a plus;
  • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem solving skills;
  • Strong writing skills & detail orientation;
  • Salesforce database skills are a huge plus;
  • Works well with quick deadlines;
  • Sense of humor.
 
HOURS: 35-40 hours per week. Schedule is flexible.
COMPENSATION: Unpaid but course credit or volunteer arrangements are available.
