Academic and Student Support Summer 2019 Interns

DREAM (formerly known as Harlem RBI), an award winning youth development program, is seeking dynamic, motivated individuals to serve as a interns supporting various departments for Academic and/Student Support needs.

I. Elementary School Interns
  • South Bronx:
  • Supporting ES principal in preparing to launch the founding year of DREAM South Bronx
  • Supporting ES principal on major projects and initiatives
  • Curricular codification (Kindergarten Curriculum)
  • Formatting of documents so that they look nice and aligned
  • Creating a library of resources for staff
  • Prepping for the school year
  • Supporting in set up and organization of a new space
  • Systems and processes for family engagement in the elementary school
  • Support in summer institute for a founding staff
  •  East Harlem:
  • Supporting ES principal on major projects and initiatives
  • Elementary School Curricular codification
  • Formatting of documents to be professional and concise
  • Prepping for the school year
  • Support for DREAM Charter School Staff Summer Institute

II. Middle School Intern
  • Supporting MS principal on major projects and initiatives
  • Middle School Curricular codification
  • Formatting of documents to be professional and concise
  • Prepping for the school year
  • Supporting in the organization of the MS suite
  • DREAM Charter School Staff Summer Institute
 
III. Elementary and Middle School Student Support Interns
  • Student Support Interns – English Language Learners (2)
  • Alongside the English Language Coordinator, build a process for incoming English Language Learner’s to be surveyed for NYSITELL
  • Create resources for students who are English Language Learners
  • Create bilingual resources of materials that are created regarding testing and resources for families and students
  • Creating, printing, labeling rosters and files of students for all teachers to use who are English Language Learners
  • Create checklists from resources for staff to use when determining whether a student qualifies as an English Language Learner
  • Student Support Interns – Student Support (2)
  • Create a calendar to monitor progress of all IEP goals throughout the school year
  • Create a bank of resources of varying disabilities, social-emotional resources, and Universal
  • Design of Learning for teachers and staff to utilize
  • Compile resources to create a Professional Development series for families learning to advocate for their student’s need
  • Create and manage an organization system for student files
  • Cross-reference systems in order to ensure accuracy
  • Create a service schedule and welcome packet
 
IV. REAL Kids Instructional Team Intern:
  • The interns will have the opportunity to intern under the supervision of the Manager of Curriculum and Instruction. The ideal candidate has an active interest in education and has a creative, resilient attitude in serving our youth as best possible. See below for responsibilities:
  • Support site education specialist with the management of academic, enrichment, and social-emotional learning curriculum;
  • Prepare games and activities for differentiated small group instruction;
  • Collect and record data in an organized way for literacy assessments in order to monitor youth progress;
  • Manage and organize instructional materials to ensure efficiency in distribution;
  • Support individual and groups of youth and chaperone field trips, as needed.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Attention to detail & accuracy in verbal and oral communications;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Suite (specifically Word and Excel);
  • Ability to work independently and hold self-accountable to deadlines and outcomes;
  • Ability to commit to a consistent schedule;
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work well in a team
 
HOURS: 25-35 hours/week. Schedule is flexible.
COMPENSATION: Unpaid but course credit or volunteer arrangements are available.
