O'Brien County Youth Program Summer Assistant

The Youth Program Summer Assistant supports Iowa State University Extension and Outreach with the preparation and delivery of summer educational programs. Primary responsibilities include support and coordination of K-12 youth programs, especially in relation to O’Brien County Youth Fair preparation and delivery as part of the 4-H Youth Development Program in O’Brien County to improve the effectiveness and efficient delivery of programming to the citizens and youth of O’Brien County.

Job Responsibilities
  • Primary focus of work will be assisting staff in a fast paced environment on projects that are leading to an educational event, presentation, workshop and/or other delivery of Extension subject matter.
  • Assist in summer educational programming and provide other support as needed.
  • Work with Extension office personnel and 4-H families to organize, prepare, and deliver 4-H programming at the O’Brien County Fair.
  • Report to staff in an efficient manner in all aspects of program details relevant to program success.
  • Post pictures and updates from programs on Extension social media and in the 4-H App following official guidelines.
  • Provide excellent, professional customer support in and out of the office.
  • Other duties as assigned by the O’Brien County Extension Council.
  • O’Brien County Fair - Assist in all duties and be available during fair week with increased hours
-       Arrange communication scheduling
-       Arrange and assist judge schedules
-       Recruit judge’s assistants
-       Help with setting up and tearing down of Non-Livestock Building
-       Manage 4-H food stand at the Fair
-       Assist with inputting fair results
-       Assist with Fashion Review/Clothing Selection

Qualifications:
  • Be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with clients and staff members.
  • Work effectively and efficiently with others (teamwork) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize events and activities for the best possible outcomes.
  • Ability to manage and maintain details to ensure efficient and speedy completion of projects.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office programs, e-mail, internet and social media knowledge.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle are required.
  • Ability to be approved through the Background Screening Program.
  • Proficient with office machines, i.e. computer, copier, telephone and fax machine.

Other Information:
  • Hourly position, 35-40 hours per week average, with variation depending on activities and projects in process (work week negotiable, within normal office hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Minimum pay $12.00 per hour, negotiable depending upon qualifications and budget.
