Grassroots Organizer
Clean Water Action focuses on campaigns related to water access, water quality, and environmental justice. Our recent victories include increasing Michigan's renewable energy goals, stopping bottled water withdrawals from the Great Lakes, and funding lead pipe replacement in the city of Flint.
Our current work focuses on fighting rollbacks of drinking water protections. Recently, a new rule was proposed which would roll back protections on 50% of wetlands across the country, as well as seasonal streams. These bodies of water are the drinking water sources for millions of Americans, and provide critical water filtration and protection against flooding. We are fighting implementation of this rule, in order to ensure that all Americans have access to clean drinking water.
As part of our staff, you would organize communities around these vital issues. Responsibilities include one-on-one communication, education, fundraising, dispersing information, volunteer recruitment, and good record keeping.
We look for candidates who have strong oral and written communication skills, and who possess good attention to detail. Candidates should have an interest in environmental or social justice issues, non-profit work, or politics. Though we accept applicants from all major backgrounds, candidates with a background in Social Work, Sociology, Communications, Political Science, Public Health, or Environmental Studies are especially encouraged to apply. We do provide extensive training on the job responsibilities and on the issues we cover.
The hours for the work are from 2pm to 10:30pm, Monday through Friday. Pay for full time is $425-545 per week. We are currently hiring for full time positions starting immediately, or beginning after graduation in May of 2019.
