Serve Local Intern
The Serve Local Intern will help First Baptist Church (FIRST) run its Serve Local Ministries, which are mercy-oriented ministries to the downtown community. They will do so through encouraging member participation, community group coordination, organizing the events and additional tasks related to the execution of FIRST’s engagement in these ministries. This will also include thinking creatively about how the events could be accomplished better and working to enact those changes. The intern will also serve on Sunday mornings in the Connections Ministry area by helping the Connections Team implement its hospitality programming in the church building.
The Serve Local Intern will meet weekly with the Senior Pastor for a brief check-in meeting and weekly with the Director of Outreach for specific ministry assignments. They will be one of five interns working with FIRST during this time period and will have weekly meetings with the internship cohort that will include prayer, training and development. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside In Love Word & Deed, a local non-profit, and others on the pastoral staff and lay leadership at FIRST. This intern must engage as part of the First Baptist Church community throughout their internship, including participation in Sunday mornings at the church.
These are specific projects FIRST would like the Serve Local Intern to help with throughout the internship:
▪ Implementation of Friday Night Serve events once per month.
▪ Implementation of Saturday In Love, Word and Deed events once per month.
▪ Volunteer recruitment and coordination for the above events.
▪ Serve regularly on the Sunday morning Connections Team as a greeter
▪ Follow up with new people visiting church by:
• finding new ways to connect with them
• helping them move from first-time guests to involved members
▪ Additional projects as assigned and time allows.
