Public Engagement Coordinator (031902)

The Public Engagement Coordinator will assist in the implementation of strategic outreach efforts for a wide range of community, landscape architecture, transportation, and infrastructure projects. This position will collaborate with SRF staff members, our clients, and a diverse array of public and community representatives. As part of our Public Engagement practice, we strive to translate technical concepts for the general public. The ideal candidate will be passionate about connecting with community members in both face-to-face and online interactions.

Duties
·        Assist in developing public engagement plans that articulate goals, responsibilities, methodologies, strategies and timelines for public engagement activities for planning, preliminary design and construction projects.
·        Conduct public engagement activities that educate the community about project needs and effectively solicit input from the community and stakeholders about how best to address those needs within project constraints.
·        Implement communication and engagement strategies that effectively reach typically under-represented communities including minority groups, immigrant groups, low-income households, elderly households, and disabled individuals.
·        Design and develop online tools for communication and engagement include websites, online surveys, community engagement platforms and social media.
·        Prepare presentation materials for engagement events including meeting slides, videos, and displays.
·        Attend informal engagement events such as community festivals or pop-up events.
·        Maintain documentation of engagement activities including attendance, meeting materials, comments received, and responses to comments.
·        Prepare reports summarizing engagement activities, input received, and project responses to concerns.
·        Coordinate logistics for events and public meetings including coordination of space, schedules, materials and resources

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in communications, public relations/ affairs, urban planning or related field
  • 0 - 5 years of related post-graduate experience in public outreach and communications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to interact with project managers as well as community and public representatives
  • Knowledge of outreach strategies and best practices
  • Ability to self-start and take ownership of a project
  • Ability to maintain organization and attention to detail under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to transfer materials to and attend off-site events; valid MN driver’s license and own vehicle required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
