Environmental Health Risk Assessment - Chemical Engineer Opportunity

This opportunity is within the Environmental Health Risk Assessment Division with a mission to: Identify and assess legacy, current, and emerging environmental public health threats, develop and communicate solutions, and assure the quality and effectiveness of the Army's Public Health Enterprise. The participant will assist senior project officers in a variety of projects related to environmental health risk assessments. Primary projects will include assisting with the design, maintenance, and population of the Division's toxicity and fate and transport databases. This data is critical for the execution of many environmental health risk assessment projects. The participant will also assist senior project officers with the development of military specific exposure guidelines for chemicals or biological agents of interest to the Army and with other environmental health risk assessment projects such as Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) risk assessments and emerging contaminant assessments.
Appointment Length
This appointment is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by APHC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
Additional Information
While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with DOD or any other agency, this opportunity will require a suitability investigation/background investigation. Any offer made is considered tentative pending favorable outcome of the investigation.
Qualifications
The participant must have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and strong computer skills. Attention to detail, data analysis, the ability to be able to participate both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams, and strong written and oral communication are favorable skill sets.
