Internship-Physiology-Summer 2019

Description
Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton conducts research on environmental health effects and aerospace medicine, addressing health and performance challenges faced by service members in operational military environments.
Intern will gain knowledge in the following areas:
  • Assist principal investigators (PI) in Institutional Review Board (IRB) packet development and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Implementation of sponsored and PI initiated research studies, including regulatory requirements, and maintenance of files/study records.
  • Assist with literature reviews
  • Assist with research subjects, study data collection and subject notification of study inclusion / exclusion.
  • Assist in research design.
  • Perform data collection of physiological and cognitive measures
  • Perform data entry, verification, and analysis.
  • Preparation for presentations and written published articles.
  • Set-up, operate, adjust, and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus 
Appointment Length
This ORISE appointment is scheduled for a 13-week period. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by NAMRU-D. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
 
Qualifications
  • Candidate should be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology
  • Knowledge in performing human subjects research
  • Proficiency in assessing and monitoring vital signs
  • Knowledgeable in measuring VO2
  • Ability to organize and schedule groups of people for activities
