Soils Conservation Intern - AmeriCorps Member

We have several opportunities related to Soil Monitoring, Soil Health and Soil Assessments. Participants will receive training and certification in Assessment, Inventory and Monitoring (AIM) protocol as a part of their service. Information is below:
 
Montana Conservation Corps-Conservation Intern-Soils-AmeriCorps Member
MCC’s Conservation Intern-Soils program provides opportunities for young adults to gain professional experience in a soils related field. Conservation Interns-Soils serve at partnering federal/state agencies and other community-based conservation organizations across Montana and South Dakota.

General Program Information: The Conservation Intern program is designed to make a measurable difference in local conservation efforts while strengthening the professional experience of our members. Interns are placed individually with a partner organization and work under the direct supervision of the Host Site Supervisor, while coordinating with MCC staff to ensure successful completion of the program objectives. Interns serve on a variety of projects including GPS and GIS projects, ranger patrols, habitat enhancement, data analysis, public outreach and education, trails projects, research, and invasive species management. 
Start Date: May 15th 
End Date: August 16th 
 
Benefits
$504 bi-weekly living stipend
$1,566-2,255 AmeriCorps education award upon completion of the program
 
Qualifications - Must Have
High school degree or GED
Minimum age of 18
Available for duration of entire term of service; commitment to completing term
US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
Effective written and oral communication skills
Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, ability to pass a motor vehicle records check, US Citizenship or ability to work in the US
 
Qualifications - Desired
College degree, preferably in watershed, soils, range and agricultural sciences, or a related field
Previous natural resource related experience, interest in soil assessment fieldwork, data collection & analysis or plan development
Previous work or volunteer experience with local stakeholder, watershed or natural resource groups
Ability to work long days in various weather assessing soil health
Ability to work with and build consensus among diverse stakeholders
Open and adaptable to new environments, different perspectives and rural communities
