Preferred Experience/Qualifications/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the metals industry or relevant operational practices in an industrial setting
  • Must be time flexible and able to work to the demands of the organisation
  • Be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Management experience in a relevant field

Key Responsibilities (in training):
  • Maintains a practical knowledge of scrap metal grades, value and operational processes
  • Stock control including stock take
  • Manage profit and loss to achieve targets, including margin
  • Overhead and margin forecasting and monitoring thereafter
  • Daily analysis of margin and overhead to find efficiencies
  • Ensure material is graded and priced appropriately
  • Ensure that all HSE policies and procedures are followed and managed effectively
  • Work closely with the regional health, safety and environment team to proactively apply knowledge and conduct in-house audits
  • Work with the internal transport department and provide management support when located outside the main transport hub
  • Oversee the front of house offices to ensure high level customer service
  • Ensure that all operational employees have the appropriate information and training to carry out their duties safely and efficiently
  • Understand and implement HR policies efficiently and fairly
  • Oversee staffing levels, recruitment and the onboarding of new employees
  • Ensure all actions are taken in regards to weekly payroll activity
  • Work closely with the commercial and transport departments to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Implement and Communicate strategy to comply with regulatory agencies
  • Communicate across all departments and depots, actively engaging the workforce though regular meetings, updates, safety meetings
  • Provide strong visible leadership in order to ultimately manage all employees through performance, management and training
  • Promote teamwork between colleagues at all departments and depots
