Assistant Volunteer Program Manager (Americorps VISTA)

In partnership, the National Park Service at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park (SAAN) and Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) will provide a year-long opportunity for a young adult or veteran interested in parks that are enveloped in their community. As such, SAAN and Stewards will recruit a candidate that will assist in building local volunteer capacity to help restore healthy ecosystems and preserve historic resources, innovating and assist in creating a volunteer program that serves visitors and locals alike. The VISTA Project will create a “Lead Volunteer Corps” of (three to five) long-term volunteer leaders that will forge the way for San Antonio Missions National Historical Park’s (SAAN) volunteer program to flourish and represent the broader San Antonio Community. Lead Volunteer Corps members will come from a diverse set of backgrounds and skills. They will practice the ability to train, lead, and safely follow all NPS policies and procedures that are relevant to the work with which they engage. The initial focus of the Lead Volunteer Corps will be deferred maintenance, facilities maintenance, training and/or leading other volunteers, visitor services, education programming, partnerships, preservation, and conservation, providing valuable job skills to Lead Volunteer Corps members.

Member Duties : Expand the park-wide volunteer program at SAAN through the development of a Lead Volunteer Corps that is both up to "industry standards" and representative of the greater San Antonio community (seventh most populous city in the US), by attracting and retaining the brightest and most dedicated volunteers and partner organizations. These volunteers will help the park address deferred maintenance, enhance visitor experience, and increase efficiency in park-wide operations. The VISTA member will shape a modern volunteer program made up of empowered, flexible, and friendly volunteers. The VISTA Member will research and implement volunteer management software to track data (e.g. yearly volunteer hours and training) and manage information regarding the volunteer program to ultimately increase park efficiency. This position will also help a young adult or veteran gain practical skills in growing local volunteer support and empowering local leaders. Rolling applications, do not wait to apply!
