Summary
 
Joining the laboratory of Dr. Steven Belinsky, Ph.D., the successful candidate will participate in a NIH-funded research team evaluating the toxicant properties and health effects of cigarillo and hookah tobacco products with respect to toxicant chemicals; cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, inflammation and immune responses to derive a hazard score for each product. Studying effects on lung epithelial, cardiac, and endothelial cells will provide outcomes to support strong evidence-based policies for informing the public and substantiating new regulatory policies regarding the hazardous properties of cigarillo and hookah products with respect to cardiovascular and respiratory effects. 
 
The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct independent research, remain abreast of developments in the field of toxicology and develop novel research methods as needed. Will also work directly with research teams in the Institute as well as with outside collaborators, develop proposals for research funding, present and publish research data, analyze and interpret a variety of data, and perform all other related research duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
 
This position requires a Ph.D. in toxicology or a directly-related field, and a proven record of peer-reviewed publications including demonstrated first-authorship success in toxicology, or related, research.
 
Must have documented training in cell biology techniques with respect to enzymatic assays, and demonstrated technical expertise with respect to sterile cell culture, and DNA, RNA and protein-based assays.
 
The successful candidate will have demonstrated effectiveness and experience working as part of a large research team, as well as success performing independent research projects of varying scope. This position requires superior professional-level verbal and written communication skills which are required to effectively perform in the role, as well as excellent judgment, and problem-solving and decision-making skills.
