LUST Site Manager/Hydrogeologist (Hydrogeologist 3)

The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) is looking to fill a LUST Site Manager (Hydrogeologist 3) position. The position will be located in our Southwest Regional Office (SWRO) in Lacey, WA.

The LUST Site Manager position serves as a Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) site manager/hydrogeologist with responsibility for independently planning, developing, directing, conducting, overseeing, and/or providing technical assistance and guidance on hydrogeologic analyses and technical services for ground water, unsaturated zone and/or surface water investigations, feasibility studies, and cleanup actions at LUST sites within multiple counties of the Southwest Region. 

We are looking for applicants who possess excellent technical and written skills, the ability to quickly assess and evaluate environmental data, and make decisions regarding sufficiency of cleanup actions.

Duties
 
The mission of the Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) is to protect Washington's human health and environment by preventing and cleaning up pollution and supporting sustainable communities and natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations.
 
Some of the key work activities of the position include:
  • Reviews independent LUST cleanup projects reports under Ecology's Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) to determine if the cleanup meets the substantive requirements of the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA).
  • Plans, directs, and/ or provides oversight on professional hydrogeological analysis on assigned formal LUST cleanup sites.
  • Independently performs LUST Initial Investigations of Environmental Responses Tracking System complaints.
  • Provides VCP customers completing independent cleanups with technical assistance to ensure their remedial actions concur with cleanup standards. 
  • Recommends compliance schedules and/or formal enforcement action necessary to expedite contaminated cleanup at LUST contaminated Sites.
  • Prepares letters, memos, technical reports, and bulletins. 
  • Negotiates and drafts agreed orders, consent decrees, enforcement orders, and cleanup action plans, including work to be performed and associated work schedules.
This recruitment will remain open until filled. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field. 
 
AND
 
Three years of professional experience as a hydrogeologist, hydrologist, geologist or closely allied profession or one year as a Hydrogeologist 2.  
 
A Master's degree with major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field will substitute for two years of experience. 
 
A Ph.D. will substitute for three years of experience if major research was in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied field.
 
AND
Verification of completion of an Initial 40-hour hazardous materials training or the ability to successfully complete the training within the first six months of employment, followed by successful completion of an annual 8-hour refresher.
 
NOTE: This position also requires possession of a valid Washington State Geologist license

 
Special Requirements / Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Geologist license.
