Manager, Typhoid Programs

We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible person to work with our team and external partners. The ideal candidate has the ability to think strategically, work independently to develop statistical aspects of protocol and data analysis plans, conduct analyses and write results. The Manager will consult with investigators to independently design studies and develop statistical analysis plans. More specifically, after gaining background on study and research questions, the Manager will help to design optimal studies, refine the research questions and formulate the corresponding hypotheses. Strong written and oral communications skills, with the ability to explain technical information to a lay audience, are highly desirable.

The Manager will play a key epidemiological role in a number of projects related to the systematic collection of data on enteric fever to fill the knowledge gaps related to the burden of enteric fever. The Manager will participate in protocol and project implementation plan development and project management, be responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of the projects function efficiently, and ensure that the projects remain in compliance with grant requirements and meet grant milestone deadlines.

Responsibilities:

Project Management
• Manage coordination of research project field activities 
• Use epidemiological and statistical methods to assist in designing and implementing research study and quality assurance methods to generate reliable data
• Manage research study activities, including development of study protocols, liaising with site study teams, oversight of data collection, data cleaning and statistical analysis
• Prepare monthly reports to be shared with the site investigators and other stakeholders and present data at meetings with international partners to highlight the population impact of enteric fever
• Responsible for project oversight, problem-solving and coordination of all study-related activities; recommend protocol operational changes to meet scientific objectives, if needed
• Lead coordination of site monitoring visits, including ensuring site visit objectives are met and reports and recommendations are produced
• Revise study protocols and standard operating procedures, as needed 
• Ensure regulatory compliance of internal review boards, including protocol adherence, reporting and site visits
• Establish and implement regular reliability assessment and quality control procedures for data collection and data entry
• Assist with statistical analysis and manuscript writing
• Assist with training/orientation of field staff on study related activities
• Provide oversight for development and maintenance of study databases
• Ensure timely response to approved data requests and monitor the progress of data analyses
• Meet regularly to report on study progress and collaborate and correspond with principle and site investigators
• Coordinate dissemination of study results at the global level through meetings, workshops and publishing in peer-reviewed journals

Grants/Contracts Management
• Assist with proposal writing
• Assist with sub-contract and budget management
• Manage reporting on grant outcomes and milestones through progress reports and assist with preparing financial reports that accurately reflect grant spending
• Other related duties, as assigned

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Public Health or other health related field 
• 7+ years relevant experience, preferably in the field of epidemiology/public health
• Experience conducting quantitative research projects 
• Experience with data collection and management
• Experience specific to vaccine preventable infectious diseases highly desirable
• Experience liaising with a wide variety of international partners, NGOs, senior government officials, including U.S. government and foundations
• Capacity for people management
• Well-developed research, analysis and interview skills
• Excellent communication and diplomacy skills (active listening, writing, speaking)
• Shows insight and awareness of the audience and tailors communications so complex messages are conveyed clearly and with impact
• Strong attention to detail, ability to manage complex tasks, highly organized, flexible, dependable and able to prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines
• Listens carefully to feedback and comments from staff and adapts plans/actions accordingly
