Requirements Engineer

We’re adding the important position of Requirements Engineer to our Omaha, Nebraska-based engineering team.

As REI’s first dedicated Requirements Engineer, you will be tasked with discovery and research into current, planned, or hypothetical products with the goal of establishing essential features and capabilities, and accurately gauging marketplace value. You’ll be expected to engineer important conceptual guidelines, develop and harden product requirements by eliciting information directly from important stakeholders, highly valued OEM’s, REI sales and engineering team leaders, business management, and aftermarket customers. 

You’ll serve on the front line, backed by an engineering team with 175+ years of combined multi-discipline know-how, extending our capabilities through direct engagement with key Company partners.  You will be plugged in to streams of incoming information: product inquiries, proposals, formal requests, partnership opportunities, technical briefs, and legal documents. REI’s Requirements Engineer will constantly filter for significance, extract actionable information, distill key characteristics and capabilities, and formulate in-demand products with desirable features; setting the stage for future successes.

An Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Theoretical basis and practical experience eliciting and developing technical product requirements.
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, distributed computer systems, engineering and production processes.
  • Technical translation skills: can relate technical concepts using non-technical language and decompose informal language into technically sound structures and objects.
  • A degree in software, engineering, or business.
  • Background in a sales or customer-facing role with demonstrated success.
  • A knack for discovering motive and able to read between the lines.

  • Avid reader with excellent data entry skills.
  • Fluid application user and discerning technophile.
  • A good public speaker, comfortable in front of a discriminating audience, delivers the goods with charm and conviction.
  • Market savvy, able to ascertain real-world value of potential projects and company engineering efforts.
  • Organized and efficient, a quick study, rapid document composer, creative reporter, and strategic thinker.
  • Early bird gets the worm, internally motivated self-starter, willing to go above and beyond what’s required to define the future of REI product lines.
